In your bill of materials set-up process, identify specific steps that incur costs or create revenue. Fishbowl Advanced sends that data to QuickBooks automatically, keeping your financials up to date and accurate.

There are four main types of manufacturing jobs that require a BOM.
Manufacture
Manufacturing jobs can range from a few simple steps to lengthy and complex production stages. Manufacturing BOMs help you take a variety of parts, or production stages, and put them in the linear order required to create a finished product.
Maintenance
Many items, like machinery, require regular maintenance to avoid breaking down. A maintenance BOM helps to manage regular maintenance schedules and keep your business running on schedule. A maintenance BOM clearly defines the parts to monitor and replace parts, as well as the steps required to keep your machinery and products in working order.
Disassemble
Disassembling a finished product involves undoing the work completed in the manufacturing process, resulting in a bunch of individual parts. A disassemble BOM identifies the specific steps required to take apart a finished product, and can include details, like which parts to keep or discard, and where to store or dispose of each part
Repair
Repairs often involve a single part, or simple system within a larger item, like heavy machinery. Repair BOMs can drill down to each individual part, or system, meaning a complex item could have many associated repair BOMs.

- Batch Add: This allows you to add more than one part and/or product simultaneously.
- Finished Goods: These are the end results of a bill of materials and work order.
- Notes: If parts or products require extra instructions, you can insert notes to explain them.
- Raw Goods: These parts and materials will be used up or transformed into something else in the manufacturing process.
- Repairs: These are intangible items that are not consumed in the manufacturing process, but they still incur costs.
