Whiteboard Wednesday: How to Do It Wrong

May 6, 2015
Ever wanted to know how to do something completely wrong? You are in for a treat because this week’s Whiteboard Wednesday teaches you several ways to botch managing inventory. In fact, this might just be the worst advice you’ll ever hear on the subject.

What Not to Do

And, of course, this is totally tongue in cheek, and you should do the exact opposite of all of these things, which are:
  1. Just write down sensitive information on paper instead of in software
  2. Say no to metrics and goal-driven decisions
  3. Make sure to guess instead of using hard facts
  4. All you need to count inventory is your fingers
  5. Never double-check your records with cycle counts or other ways
If you follow these five steps, you shouldn’t have any problem. Actually, you’ll probably have lots of problems!

Make the Change

The point is, sometimes you just need to take a step back and look at your inventory management processes and see what’s working and what’s not. Then change those areas that need improvement.
