Important checklist before updating to 2020:

  1. If you do not already have a 2020 license key, click here to update your license key.
  2. If upgrading Fishbowl from a version before 2018, your shipping integrations will need to be reconnected after installing.
  3. Any Custom Reports and/or Custom Integrations may need to be updated to work with version 2019 and above. Please contact the partner you purchased them from before upgrading to ensure they will work with the new version.
  4. If this is your first time updating to 18.4 or later, the information you used to setup your shopping cart plugin will need to be re-entered in the Plugins module after updating.
  5. If you have a Custom Plugin that was built by Fishbowl, please email pluginsdev@fishbowlinventory.com before updating.
  6. If you integrate with QuickBooks Online, you will need to re-integrate after updating to version 2019.10
  7. Beginning with Fishbowl 2019.10, Fishbowl Canada no longer requires a country-specific version of Fishbowl.

Recommended Steps to Upgrade Fishbowl

If you are updating your software from version 2016.14 or older, please follow these steps:

  1. On your server computer, close the Fishbowl Client and exit the Fishbowl Server.
  2. Make a copy of your database (usually located in the '.../database/data' folder in the Fishbowl directory.) If you have images or custom reports, you will need to make a copy of those as well.
  3. Install the new version of Fishbowl on your server computer. After installing, run the Fishbowl Server and wait until the database update is complete.
  4. The Fishbowl Client will automatically update on each of your client computers the first time you run Fishbowl.

If you are updating your software from version 2017.1, please follow these steps:

  1. On your server computer, close the Fishbowl Client and exit the Fishbowl Server.
  2. Make a backup of your database by opening the Fishbowl Server window and selecting "Tools > Options", then right-clicking on your database and selecting "Backup Database". If you have images or custom reports, you will need to make a copy of those as well.
  3. Install the new version of Fishbowl on your server computer.
  4. Run the Fishbowl Server and wait until the database update is complete.
  5. On each client computer, the Fishbowl Client will automatically update the first time you run Fishbowl.
