The Iron Cowboy to Attend Utah Charity Bike Race

The public is invited to participate in bike races and other activities at the Live Big Challenge

OREM, Utah, August 12, 2015 – James Lawrence, the man who completed 50 Iron Man competitions in 50 days in 50 states this summer, will share his inspiring story at a charitable cycling event in Orem, Utah, on August 22, 2015.

The event is called the Live Big Challenge, and it gets its name from the motto of cycling enthusiast Bryan Byrge. Byrge was hit and killed by a vehicle while riding his bike in the early morning of March 12, 2014.

All proceeds from the Live Big Challenge will go to helping Byrge’s wife and four children.

The event will be held at Cemetery Field in Orem, just north of 1200 North on 800 East. There is plenty to do for everyone, even people who aren’t interested in cycling. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. there will be food trucks, games for children, a raffle and auction, and, of course, an appearance by the Iron Cowboy. At noon there will be a Memorial Walk around the field.

Cyclists interested in participating in the bike races have three main course options:

  • Epic Loop – This course begins at 6 a.m. and goes for 100.1 miles. It heads north through Midway to Cottonwood Heights before traveling south through the Salt Lake Valley before coming to Suncrest and the Murdock Canal Trail.
  • Alpine Loop – This course begins at 8 a.m. and goes 40.8 miles. It travels north to Highland and then through the American Fork Canyon before turning south.
  • Flat Murdock Canal – This course begins at 9:30 a.m. and lasts for 20.0 miles. It goes up to Highland and then turns around and returns on the Murdock Canal Trail.
