Where’s Fishbowl? Tracking Inventory for Mendingshed.com

Have you ever tried to start your own online business?  As many of our own Fishbowl employees can attest, it’s a lot of work.  Not only do you need to design your own website and keep it up to date with your entire product line, but you have to maintain the inventory and Pick, Pack and Ship the orders as well, OR, if you don’t want to manage the inventory yourself you can simply forward your sales orders on to a drop shipper and they’ll manage it for you.  All of this takes time, effort, and a lot of know-how, so I thought I would share the success story of a small business (and happy Fishbowl customer) from just few miles down the road from our Fishbowl headquarters here in Orem, Utah. Fresh foods, organic fresh foods, frozen foods, processed foods, energy drinks, sodas, etc. You get the idea. Fishbowl has customers in all these markets, and how they purchase, manufacture, package, and sell their products can vary tremendously across these niches. Where’s Fishbowl? Warehousing and the Consumption Model

Where is Fishbowl?Question: What do a live-in mental healthcare facility, a river barge towing company, and a science summer camp for teens all have in common?

Answer: They are all happy Fishbowl customers and they use Fishbowl Inventory in pretty much the same way. Namely, they have warehouses full of inventory (with hundreds of SKUs) and they need to track the consumption or usage of the inventory on behalf of the company or institution they service.

Think of any business, institution, government agency, university, Fortune 500 company, etc., whose product or service is NOT the inventory they need to warehouse in order to run their business. But they still need to track and manage that inventory as a very real, and often costly, expense to running their business. (more…)

Where’s Fishbowl? Firearms Manufacturers and Resellers

Frankly, I’ve got to say I had a bit of a learning curve while writing this article. The sum total of my experience with firearms has been in shooting a .22 in Boy Scouts(that’s a .22 caliber rifle for those even less informed than me), and the time I borrowed a .12 gauge to go “Zucchini Blastin’” on a date with my soon-to-be wife. (What else can you do with overgrown zucchinis?) Times have changed. Could there be a bigger hot button issue than firearms at the moment? OK, maybe the federal budget, but firearms are a close second. So, why would a Fishbowl employee be writing about firearms?

Well, along with all the other niche markets Fishbowl works well for, “Firearms Manufacturing and Sales” seems to be one of those markets for which we seem to be a GREAT fit, and here’s why. According to Business Insider magazine, there are 129,817 gun stores in the U.S., (which, incidentally, is 14,869 more gun stores than grocery stores!). That’s a lot of businesses and a lot of guns. Most of these businesses are small to mid-sized and are therefore using QuickBooks for their accounting (QuickBooks covers over 87 percent of the small-to-mid sized business accounting software market in the U.S.). Where in the world is Fishbowl? We have all sorts of clients, from ones who sell high-end medical equipment to ones who track disaster-relief supplies. Clients who produce frozen foods to ones who manufacturer cattle holding pens. Importers, exporters, wholesalers, distributors, repair facilities, universities, governments, military units.
