The Unit of Measure module is where you go to create and edit units of measure that you’ll most likely use on regular basis in the course of managing your inventory in Fishbowl.
Units of Measure
Depending on the kinds of materials you work with, you may want to pick and choose the kinds of measurements you will create from this list:
- Millimeter
- Centimeter
- Inch
- Foot
- Meter
- Hour
- Day
- Each
- Pair
- Package
- Milliliter
- Fluid Ounce
- Liter
- Gallon
- Milligram
- Gram
- Pound
- Kilogram
You aren’t limited to what’s on this list; it’s just meant to give you an idea of your options.
Conversion Rates
Once you’ve created a few units of measure, you can assign conversion rates to them in relation to each other. For example:
- 1 Day = 24 Hours
- 1 Meter = 100 Centimeters
- 1 Inch = 25.4 Millimeters
- 1 Gallon = 128 Fluid Ounces
- 1 Kilogram = 2.2046 Pounds
- 1 Package = 20 Eaches
Unit of Measure Creation
When creating a new unit of measure, you’ll first be asked to choose from a list of types that it will fit into:
- Area
- Count
- Length
- Time
- Volume
- Weight
Then you’ll be asked to name it, add an abbreviation, and write a description of it. After that’s done, you can click on the Conversions tab to add a unit of measure conversion. First, select another unit of measure to compare it to. Then define their relationship, define the ratio between them, and finally review the conversion and click Finish.
Next we’ll talk about how to use the User module.
