Unit of Measure

The Unit of Measure (UOM) Module allows you to add or modify Units of Measure and conversions from one UOM to another. Units of Measure should be entered into Fishbowl before your parts. Fishbowl has several standard UOM's set up, however you are free to add additional UOM's as needed for your company.

The following functions are available through the Unit of Measure Module:

• Create new Units of Measure
• Delete Units of Measure
• Edit existing Units of Measure
• Create, edit or delete Unit of Measure Conversions

Creating a New Unit of Measure

Creating a new Unit of Measure (UOM) requires a simple one-step process. In the UOM Module click the New icon located from the Module Toolbar.

A Unit of Measure wizard will be displayed. Select what the new UOM will measure and click Next. Second, enter the new name for the UOM and click Next. Step Three of the UOM wizard will require an abbreviation for the new unit of measure. (example: 'ea' for 'each' or 'ft' for 'foot'). Enter this data and click Next. Step four of the Adding a new UOM is an optional feature where you may add any details or description pertaining to this UOM. After you are satisfied with the information entered into this wizard, click Finish.

Edit/Delete a Unit of Measure Conversion

To edit a UOM conversion, double click on the UOM in the search panel. Next click on the Conversions subtab on the main screen.

Highlight the conversion you would like to change and click on the edit button on the Component Toolbar located at the right side of the screen. A UOM conversion dialog box will be displayed. Edit the conversion factor and click Ok to save the changes.

To delete a UOM conversion, highlight the UOM in the search panel and choose the Conversions subtab. Next highlight the conversion you would like to delete, and click the delete button on the Component Toolbar.

A dialog box will be displayed asking if you would like to save the changes. Click Yes to save or No to cancel.

Create Unit of Measure Conversions

The unit of measure conversion allows you to convert to a smaller or larger unit; for example, Dozens to Each, or Inches to Feet. Both UOM's must already exist in Fishbowl in order to create conversions.

1. In the Unit of Measure module, double click the UOM you would like to create a conversion for. Now click on the conversions subtab.
   
2. Click the Add Conversion button on the Component Toolbar.
3. A UOM Conversion wizard will be brought up to take you through the conversion process.
4. Select which UOM you are converting to. Click Next.
5. Select whether your first UOM is greater than or less than the UOM you are converting to. Click Next.
   
6. Enter in the correct ration between the units. Click Next.
7. The next screen will show a summary of your conversion. If this is correct, click next. If changes are needed to be made, click the back arrows.
