Fishbowl Inventory SERVER Update Instructions

Instructions for updating the Client are available below the server instructions.

This document contains step by step instructions for updating the SERVER version of Fishbowl Inventory on your server computer. Please follow each step exactly as described to ensure proper installation.

As with all updates it is important to backup your Fishbowl Inventory database. One way to do this is to make a copy of the “database” folder under C:\Program Files\Fishbowl (this location assumes a default installation). The database folder contains all of the unique information for your company.

Uninstall the old Fishbowl Inventory Software

1. Go to Start | Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs.
2. Click on Fishbowl Inventory in the list of programs. Click the “Remove” button.
3. Follow the prompts to remove Fishbowl Inventory. At the end you will get a message showing some folders that could not be removed. These folders should remain and contain your database and unique company information.
4. Restart your computer to fully implement the uninstall changes.

Download the Newest Version of Fishbowl Inventory

1. Go to www. fishbowlinventory.com
2. Click on the “Training” tab. In the drop-down menu choose “Support” then “Update”. Submit your company’s information to download and “Save” the installer file onto your “desktop”.

Install the New Fishbowl Inventory Software

1. Once the download is complete, run the installation file on your desktop. The file will be named “fi-5.0.20070631.exe” except with different numbers.
2. An installation wizard will open. Click Next twice and accept the license agreement. Click Next.
3. The recommended installation location will appear showing you the last place where Fishbowl Inventory was installed. Click Next.
4. On “Choose Install Set” we recommend you always choose “Complete Installation” on the server computer. Click Next.
5. A new window will open and require you to enter your CD Key. On the next window you’ll want to leave the default values to create product icons in an existing program group (the default). If the option is available, you’ll want to put a check mark in the box at the bottom to “Create Icons for All Users.” Click Next, then click Install.
6. Finally, click Done. You’ll see an option to start both the Server and Client. Click OK to start.
