Executive Bios
The Fishbowl Executive Team consists of highly talented individuals with years of experience in many different fields. They bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise and are one reason for the success and growth of Fishbowl. A brief bio of each team member is below.
Dave Williams, CEO
David Williams currently serves as chief executive officer of Fishbowl, overseeing all aspects of the company's day-to-day operations.
He has 30 years of professional sales experience in multiple industries, where he was consistently the top sales performer. Since taking the top office at Fishbowl in 2004, he has created rapid growth and garnered national recognition for Fishbowl, including positions on the Inc. 500 Fastest Growing Private Companies and the Deloitte Fast 500 lists, as well as other regional and local awards.
David brings a unique fire, vision and passion to his position that empowers employees to accomplish more than casual observers might think possible. It is this unique leadership skill that transformed a small struggling software development group into the industry leader Fishbowl has become in the time he has been the CEO.
Despite his many responsibilities, David still finds time to serve his community. Starting in 2009, he instituted an annual day of service in which every Fishbowl employee in the Orem, Utah area devotes a whole day to helping a local charity. David is a member of the Woodbury School of Business National Advisory Council at Utah Valley University. In this role, he mentors business students, offers career advice, and prepares young entrepreneurs to succeed in the business world. Starting in January 2012, he joined the Provo Chamber of Commerce as a member of its Board of Directors.
Prior to joining Fishbowl, David held several other executive positions, including sitting on several companies’ boards of directors. He also spent several years in business consulting, helping other companies establish and implement winning strategies.
David served as CEO of Franklin Quest Canada, and later Managing Director of First Things First, a division of Covey Leadership, a world leader in time management and leadership consulting. He attended BYU and studied business management.
Mary Scott, President
Mary Scott is the president of Fishbowl. She has helped several of Utah’s most prominent high-tech firms move forward through their incubation to achieve big goals, and she is continuing her string of successes at Fishbowl.
Mary also serves at Utah Valley University on the Executive Foundation Board of Directors and chairs the Ambassador team.
She brings a strong community focus to the company thanks to her experience as the vice president of Grant Administration, eTraining and Corporate Social Responsibility programs at Certiport. From 2001-2009, she helped grow Certiport from a startup to a large business providing more than 9 million certifications for Microsoft, Adobe and other companies.
Among her career highlights, Mary launched the first information bank in the state of Utah as the director of business development and HR at Center7, and served as a project manager for the U.S. Air Force at Sembach Air Base in Germany. She has extensive experience in business development, sales, training and grant funding. She joined Fishbowl after being impressed by its efforts to give back to the community.
Mary earned a Master’s degree in Communications from Columbia College, and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Indiana University-Purdue. She also achieved her Senior Professional Human Resource (SPHR) certification and is a certified professional instructor for Microsoft, Adobe and Basic Digital Literacy IC3.
Kirk Tanner, CMO
Kirk Tanner currently serves as chief marketing officer for Fishbowl, overseeing several strategic areas of the company, as well as branding, public relations and overall tactical marketing execution. Kirk brings more than 24 years of management experience to the company, with 22 of those years in the technology industry. He has held senior-level management position within a variety of companies, including large international corporations, early-stage technology companies, and his own marketing consulting firm.
Prior to joining Fishbowl, Kirk served as chief marketing officer and chief operations officer for Mstar, a leading provider of 100% fiber-optic triple-play services over FTTP networks in the United States. While in this position he grew revenue more than two-fold, leading to the sale of the company. Kirk also served as president of Aradyme Corporation, a next-generation database developer that provided data migration products and services to state and federal governments, as well as custom database development in the private sector. Prior to this position, Kirk was CEO and founder of Tanner Spencer Group, a full-service marketing consulting company that was acquired by a technology client, leading to the formation of Aradyme Corporation. Kirk has also held senior management positions at Novell, Satchi & Satchi Worldwide, and BBDO Worldwide.
Kirk holds a Master's of Science in Advertising degree from Northwestern University and a Bachelor's degree in Communications/Advertising from Brigham Young University.
Kevin Batchelor, VP Product Development
Kevin Batchelor is the vice president of product development at Fishbowl. Since joining the company in 2005, Kevin has successfully filled many different roles. He started as a technical trainer and support technician. He later worked as testing manager and product manager.
Kevin first came into contact with Fishbowl while working as a warehouse manager at Backyard Adventures when he was still in college. As a warehouse manager, he used Fishbowl Inventory on a daily basis.
Kevin graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology. His education experience brings a unique perspective to software development. His software development philosophy focuses on getting programmers to understand customers’ perspectives. His priority is to understand how people interact with software and then use that knowledge to improve their experience.
Grant Kimball, VP Partner Relations
Grant Kimball is currently serving as vice president, partner relations and is one of the founders of Fishbowl. Grant joined the original Fishbowl team in 2001 and has filled many roles in, or related to, sales. Previous to his current role, he was vice president of sales and marketing. Grant brings 24 years of sales experience to Fishbowl, primarily in technology-related fields.
In 2003, Grant helped steer Fishbowl towards integration with QuickBooks, the popular accounting package from Intuit Corporation. Since 2003, Fishbowl has focused on this relationship and is currently the #1-requested add-on software solution for QuickBooks users out of approximately 300 software packages. Besides the relationship with Intuit, Grant is also responsible for developing Fishbowl’s growing resellers program, which he is currently managing, and now accounts for over 20% of Fishbowl’s total sales.
Grant earned a Master’s in Computer Integrated Manufacturing from Brigham Young University and a Bachelor’s in Operations Management from Cal Poly, Pomona.
John David King, VP Sales
John David King currently serves as vice president of sales for Fishbowl. He manages the day-to-day needs of the internal sales team while working closely with all departments within Fishbowl to promote and drive software sales. John David has been involved in sales and business management for over 14 years, following several years as an attorney practicing family law and criminal defense in the great state of Texas. John David came to Fishbowl in 2006 and has worked extensively in both the direct sales and channel sales departments.
Prior to Fishbowl, John David worked for several years as the national marketing manager and dealer promotions manager for one of the nation’s largest residential playground manufacturer. A portion of his duties included training all new playground dealerships on the setup and use of Fishbowl for inventory control and order management, as well as direct sales techniques for the industry. John David also was involved in direct customer sales for several years prior to becoming a marketing man.
John David has a Juris Doctorate degree, as well as a Bachelor’s of Communications degree from Texas Tech University.
Dusty Miller, VP Support and Training
Dusty Miller currently serves as vice president over the support and training departments at Fishbowl. He brings to Fishbowl over 10 years of experience working in customer service. He oversees all the interactions that a customer has with Fishbowl from the day they purchase Fishbowl Inventory, through the entire customer experience. He works closely with the support and training groups to make certain Fishbowl has the best people working in those departments.
Dusty is also responsible for the systems and process within the company that ensure customers have multiple options to get the right answers in the most timely fashion possible. Dusty has been with Fishbowl since 2003 and has been building and growing Fishbowl’s award-winning support and training departments the entire time.
Prior to Fishbowl, Dusty was at Dentrix Dental Systems Inc., the most widely used dental practice management software on the market. There he worked as a level 3 technician, supporting dental offices across the country. Prior to Dentrix, Dusty donated two years of his life working full-time serving others through an international church mission program. During this period, he discovered how important relationships were in both personal and the business life. Because of this experience, Dusty leads by putting people in front of policy. This code of conduct is revealed through his work with the support and training departments.
John Erickson, VP Customer Service
John Erickson currently serves as vice president of customer service at Fishbowl. He joined Fishbowl in 2006, and he has more than eight years of experience in customer service.
John’s leadership is a big reason why Fishbowl consistently scores high customer satisfaction ratings. His main responsibility is to oversee the company’s account managers. Each Fishbowl customer is assigned a permanent account manager who understands their needs and who helps them successfully use Fishbowl’s inventory management solution. John coaches account managers on how best to serve customers, and he makes improvements based on customer feedback.
Before joining Fishbowl, John was the director of customer service for Variety Games Inc., which specializes in educational software. He was first introduced to Fishbowl Inventory while working at Backyard Adventures with John David King, who is now Fishbowl’s vice president of sales. John draws on his experience as a warehouse manager to put himself in Fishbowl customers’ shoes.
His work is an essential part of Fishbowl’s growth. He never loses sight of where the company’s success comes from: happy customers.
John earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Brigham Young University.
Ian Bird, VP Operations
Ian Bird currently serves as vice president of operations for Fishbowl. Ian brings more than 12 years of management experience in the Human Resources, Financial and Customer Service industries to the company.
Prior to joining Fishbowl, Ian spent over 10 years working in the financial sector, working with large, successful corporations, such as Discover® and AT&T®, where he managed such processes and systems as payroll, scheduling & resource, and time management. At these companies, he helped grow young startup call centers into profitable, effective departments with thousands of employees and well-established and reputable management structures.
Additionally, Ian spent several years working with Starwood Hotels®, a leading worldwide hotel company, helping to manage their Salt Lake City call center, where he played a key role in maximizing bookings and revenue.
One of the original founders, Ian has been with Fishbowl Inventory since 2001. He has played a critical and vital role in growing the company from its inception to the successful industry leader it is today.
Lindsey Williams, Assistant Sales Manager
Lindsey Williams currently serves as Fishbowl’s assistant sales manager. She joined Fishbowl in 2004 and helped redefine the company and pave the way for its substantial growth. Working closely with executives, team members, clients and vendors, Lindsey has been instrumental in cementing the company’s key long-term relationships. She is the only Fishbowl employee who has worked in every department, which makes her our MVP.
Lindsey has grown with the company, having worked in accounting, human resources, marketing, sales and support departments. She has helped other companies and individuals succeed through her work in the new Courage Above Mountains (CAM) Center. Working with Fishbowl President Mary Scott, Lindsey developed the CAM Center, which assists people in the local community develop basic computer skills and build their confidence when seeking jobs or furthering their education.
Lindsey is a planning prodigy and continues to oversee the organization’s corporate events, open houses, in-house trainings and more. She also manages Fishbowl’s clothing designs, promotions and internal and external presentations.
Much of Fishbowl’s corporate culture can be traced back to Lindsey. She played a big role in designing Fishbowl’s office space, as well as creating a positive and uplifting work environment. We take our “fun” at Fishbowl very seriously, and Lindsey is responsible for making that happen.
